Ryle Soccer Teams Advance to District Finals

Both the Lady Raider and the Ryle Men's soccer teams advanced to the district championship game.  The championship games have been rescheduled to 2 pm for the girls game and 4 pm for the boys game, both at Conner HS.

Good luck to both teams!

Ryle, St. Henry survive, advance in boys' soccer

The Ryle and St. Henry boys' soccer teams lived the postseason adage, "survive and advance," to the hilt on Wednesday in the semifinals of the 17th District Tournament at Conner High School.

Ryle, which is ranked No. 7 in the state coaches poll, got a goal from junior striker Tyrus Sciarra with just under eight minutes left to foil Conner's upset bid, 1-0, in the first semifinal, but that drama paled in comparison to the second semifinal. St. Henry saw Boone County get a tying goal with just under 10 seconds remaining in the game and after two scoreless, five-minute sudden death overtime periods, the Crusaders won on penalty kicks 5-4, to advance with a 2-1 victory.

Ryle (17-2-3) and St. Henry (10-7-1) not only advance to tonight's 7:45 p.m. championship game, but both also advance to next week's Ninth Region Tournament.

"It's tournament time and you take 1-0 or any way you can win and move on," said Ryle coach Stephen Collins.

On Tuesday night the Lady Raider soccer team defeated Conner HS 2-1 to advance to the district championship game.  Go Lady Raiders!
