On Thursday and Friday of this week students will be taking common assessments for the 1st quarter. These are assessments designed to determine how our students are progressing so we may provide more instruction or assistance if necessary. Students in the classes using the ACT Quality Core curriculum have 4-5 "benchmark" assessments to complete over the course of the year instead of the common assessments. These benchmarks are designed with the same purpose, to give us information about student progress and to better prepare them for the end-of-course exams.
The classes using the ACT Quality Core curriculum are Algebra 2, English 2, Biology, and US History. These classes will be taking a state-mandated end-of-course exam that will count as 20% of the students' final grade in the class. As a district we have implemented the ACT Quality Core curriculum in Algebra 1, Geometry, Chemistry, and English 1. We have implemented these classes in order to better prepare all of our students to meet the college readiness standards.
Please contact your teacher or the school office at 384-5300 if you have questions or need more information.
