Momentum was a priceless commodity Friday night in the first-ever non-district football game between Boone County rivals Conner and Ryle at Borland Stadium in Union.
During a game fraught with turnovers and costly penalties, Class 6A Ryle defeated the Class 5A Cougars, 27-6 in the first meeting since Conner was bumped down from the big-school class.
"It’s a big rivalry between Ryle and Conner," Raiders coach Bryson Warner said.
"We know their guys are going to compete. Getting momentum was tough, but we still felt like we controlled the game."
Junior quarterback Nathan Davis persevered through a frustrating first half to lead the Raiders to victory.
