As you are probably aware, a horrific act of violence occured today at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering to be faced by these families and everyone associated with the school. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.
I want to remind you that the safety and security of our students and staff is our first priority. When school resumes on Monday, we will reach out to our students to reflect on the importance of life and to also provide any assistance for our students if necessary. Governor Beshear has directed that all schools and state office buildings lower their flags this coming week to halfmast in honor of the victims in this morning's shootings.
As a faculty and staff, we will also review and reinforce our school crisis plans and emergency procedures. It is my hope that we never have to utilize these plans, but we will work hard to be as prepared as possible for emergency situations.
Please take extra time this weekend to hug your family and friends. Take care.
Sincerely,
Matthew Turner
