Ryle 21 - DeSales 10

By: Dan Clasgens

The Ryle Raiders hadn’t played since Aug. 30 and the extra time to regroup paid big dividends as they traveled to Columbus to take down the DeSales Stallions, 21-10.

Ryle (2-2) had only managed to score 55 points per through three contests, but the ground game got going in this one to help them prevail.

Defense was the story early as both teams struggled to move the chains during the first half as DeSales (1-3) went to the locker room with a 3-0 halftime lead.

The Raiders would go ahead 7-3 with a third-quarter 1-yard touchdown run by Alex Brownwell. The lead would not last long though as the Stallions as the Stallions matched them with a 1-yard TD run to close out the third quarter.

On this night Ryle would save the best for last as they scored 14 unanswered points in the game’s final frame.

Senior defensive back Daniel Osborne started the fireworks with a 20-yard fumble recovery in the quarter’s opening minutes to give the Raiders the lead for good at 14-10. Classmate Travis Pulice sealed the deal with a 1-yard TD run, his first of the season, later in the frame.

After back-to-back games against opponents from the Buckeye State the Raiders return home to Borland Stadium next week as they open district play by hosting Simon Kenton (4-0).
