On March 22, the Senate sent an amended version of the 2010-12 state budget back to the House. The Senate version added the two instructional days back to the budget, but did not fund them and made additional cuts to SEEK as well as other P-12 line items. The House bill represents a $55 million reduction for education; the Senate bill cuts funding to schools about twice as much. To see details go to www.prichblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/senate-budget-requires-two.html.
The budget will now go back to the House for a vote. The House will probably vote against the changes, which will result in a conference committee where the budget will be negotiated.
Please call or email your legislators and the House and Senate leadership and ask them to fully fund education.
It’s easy to do. You can email your legislator or call the Legislative Message Line at (800) 372-7181 and leave a message. Ask to leave the same message for the members of the Senate leadership and the House leadership. Say something like: “Please invest in our state’s future by fully funding education.”
Maintaining the quality educational programs that we have at Ryle will be difficult if we do not provide adequate funding.
