Happy Wednesday!

Attention all Oklahoma  cast & crew members:  Stop by Mr. Caudill's room (109) for a gift on Monday after Easter!

The Robotics Club will meet Thursday after school in Mr. Martin's room (228) to discuss lessons learned at last weeks competition.

Attention students interested in Dance Team:  There will be an Open Techniques practice on Saturday, March 30th from 2-3:30 pm in the small gym.  Anyone interested in trying out for the 2013-14 school year is encouraged to attend!  Tryouts will be May 1, 2, and 3rd!

Attention Junior Board members:  There will be a meeting today right after school.  Please plan on attending as Mr. Turner will be there.

Attention FBLA members:  All students in performance based events must set up 2 practice times with Mr. Denigan before Friday, April 5th.  These events include:  Marketing, Global Business, Digital Design & Promotion, Emerging Business Issues, Client Services, Business Presentation, and Entrepreneurship.  Please see Mr. Denigan to set up a time.

Attention FBLA students competing at State:  There will be a mandatory meeting in room 139 after school on Wed., April 3rd.  All students competing at state must attend.

Congratulations to Kristen Goodridge & Nick Hyett for being selected as Drum Majors for the 2013 Ryle Marching Band.

Students:  Don't forget about the Seas the Day Foundation fundraiser.  The winning 1st period class will earn a breakfast!

The Raider Tennis Team added another win Friday at home against Holy Cross High School!

Happy Monday!

• Congratulations to the Speech & Debate Team!  They took home 2nd place in Congress and 2nd place overall at the National Forensic League District Tournament this weekend at Centre College.  Please congratulate the following students who qualified to compete at the National tournament in Birmingham:  Savannah Merlin, Daniel Kozar, John Leavens and Connor Hutcherson!

• Congratulations to the Ryle Dance Team!  They ended their season by placing 3rd at Ameridance Nationals this weekend!

• Congratulations to the Robotics Team!  They competed in the Queen City Regional Robotic Tournament against 53 teams from 6 states.  In only their third year of competition, Ryle's robot won the Everest Award for being the best climbing robot in the tournament.  Please congratulate the members of the Robotics team for their dedication and hard work that lead to this success!

• Auditions for the Ryle Talent Show will be held Wednesday after school.  See Mrs. Page in Room 218 for an application.  Don't miss out on your opportunity for fame & fortune!

• Attention Senior NHS members!  Points are due March 28th, however, you may participate in the March Into Madness 5K on March 30th for points!

• Attention:  Speech & Debate  will be holding a Coffeehouse/Showcase next Thursday, March 28th.  Come around 6:30 pm to see our top 5 performers as they entertain the crowd with their monologues.  Admission is $2.00.  See your English teacher for extra credit.

• Help support "Seas The Day"!  This week General Psychology students from Mr. Aylor's 1st period class will be coming around to collect money.  The money will help support the "Seas The Day Foundation", co-founded by a former Ryle graduate, which provides counseling and resources for mental awareness including suicide prevention.  The class with the highest amount donated per student wins a free breakfast!

• The General Psychology classes are sponsoring Suicide Prevention Month.  We will have a table set up in the lower commons during 4th period with information and resources.  Remember "SUICIDE IS A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO A TEMPORARY PROBLEM!"  If you or someone you know is considering suicide please see a counselor, teacher, administrator or contact one of the many resources available.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

• Come support your Ryle Baseball & Softball Teams this week!  Games at home Tues., Wed., Thurs., and Saturday!  Also Ryle Track hosts "Friday Night Frenzy" this Friday & Saturday!

• Attention English Honor Society:  Check the wall outside of Room 129 for point opportunities for the week!

• Attention Speech & Debate Team: Come audition for this year's talent show!  You could win a cash prize.  Auditions are next Wednesday, March 27th after school.  See Ms. Page in Room 218 for details.

• Attention Robotics Club Members:  Members of the Robotics Club attending the competition this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Xavier University must have signed permission slips and release forms returned to Mr. Martin by tomorrow!

• Attention Students:  This is it!  Only 1 day left to reach our goal of $3000.00 for Leukemia Society.  We will collect boxes Wednesday.  As of today we have collected over $1900.00 so we still have a way to go.  Here are the standings:  1st- Ms. Dorgan; 2nd-Ms. Delaney; 3rd-Ms. Schwartz; 4th-Mrs. Rechtin; 5th-Ms. Dews; 6th-Mrs. Evans; 7th-Mr. Woolf; 8th-Ms. Reed; 9th-Ms. Raterman; 10th-Ms. Bates.

• Congratulations to the Raider Tennis Team!  They added another win Thursday against Covington Latin High School.

FFA Regionals

At the FFA regional last night we had 7 of our 10 speakers place in the top 2 in their respective speaking categories.  The highest rating for speaking contest in FFA is superior and all of our speakers rated in this category.  The growth is amazing.  Below is a list of the speakers and their placings.  Please encourage them as we prepare for state in June.  A special thanks to Butch Hamm, Elaine Connelly, Mike Connelly, Tandy Jones, Candy Green, and Trisha Moore for being judges for the speaking contest at Grant County last night.

Understanding ADHD

Just finished a great session on understanding the struggles of students with attention deficits with our faculty presented by Dr. Aaron Vaughn of Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Behavior Group Therapy for Parents of Children with ADHD

What Is Behavior Group Therapy?

Parenting a child who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) presents most parents with many challenges. Research has shown that teaching parents about ADHD and how to appropriately use behavioral management principles can be an effective component in the successful management of their child’s ADHD, either in combination with medication management or alone. Such training can help:

1.  Improve a parent’s understanding and ability to manage his or her child’s behavior 
2.  Improve a parent’s interactions with his or her child 
3.  Reduce stress for all family members    

Our program teaches parents skills targeting specific problems common to most children who have ADHD. Moreover, parents learn how to be advocates for their child. The goal of our program is to empower parents to manage their child’s ADHD more effectively and to help their child succeed.   

To increase the availability of this treatment within the Cincinnati area, the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center offers behaviorally based parenting groups for parents and caregivers of children with ADHD at the Center for ADHD, located at the Cincinnati Children’s Oak Campus, as well as at several of our other neighborhood locationsthroughout the year.

Our parent group program, Understanding and Managing ADHD, consists of eight weekly sessions that focus on teaching parents behavioral management strategies they can use at home and school to improve the functioning of children ages 6 to 12 with ADHD. Children do not attend these parenting groups. Instead, parents work with their child at home to apply the strategies they learn to address their child’s difficulties. In addition, parents learn how to work with their child’s teacher to deal with problems the child may have at school.

Because the skills taught in each week’s session build upon the information presented in previous sessions, it is important that parents understand that they must commit to attending all eight sessions, with no absences, to maximize the benefits they and their children obtain from this group program.

• Understanding ADHD
• Principles to guide the effective management of ADHD
• Principles of effective behavior management
• Use of positive attention to promote positive behavior
• Promoting child compliance to instructions and rules 
• Prompting and promoting desired behaviors
• Promoting success with homework
• Working with teachers to reduce problems in the classroom
• Reducing undesired behaviors
• Managing child behavior in public places
• Maintaining positive change over time

There are many benefits of attending Understanding and Managing ADHD:

• Increases parent understanding of ADHD and the impact it has on a child’s emotional, behavioral, academic and social functioning
• Decreases the stigma often associated with ADHD
• Facilitates parental support as parents learn more effective ways of managing their child’s behavior
• Empowers parents to be advocates for their child with ADHD
• Encourages parents to be involved in improving their child’s functioning at home, with peers and at school

Parenting the Difficult Preschooler Parent Group Program

We offer a separate program for parents of difficult-to-manage preschool children (ages 3-5 years). It is appropriate for parents of preschoolers who display difficult-to-manage behaviors, whether or not they have been diagnosed with ADHD. The group meets once a week for six weeks and is designed to provide parents with education, support and training in parenting strategies that can improve  a child’s behavior. 
The “Parenting the Difficult Preschooler” program is typically offered at the Cincinnati Children’s Burnet Campus and Mason Campus several times throughout the year.

Attention students going to PROM!: Men's Warehouse will be here at lunch today.  They will have product information and be able to do quick fittings.  Prom is right around the corner, so it's not too early to get ready!

• Attention French Honor Society:  There will be a French Honor Society T-shirt Day on Fri., Mar. 22nd.  Show your spirit to an officer or Mrs. Naziripour to get your point.  You must wear your shirt all day (not under a sweatshirt) to receive your point!

• Attention French Honor Society:  For all members of FHS, there will be a movie today & tomorrow after school.  We will be watching Monsters Inc.  Stay for one point each day!

• Attention FBLA members:  Any student competing in one of the following areas will be testing during 5th period on Mon., Mar. 18th:  Word Processing II; Desktop Publishing; Database Design & Apps; Computer Applications; and/or Spreadsheet Applications.

• Congratulations to FBLA Members competing yesterday at Regional Conference.  We had 21 students place 1st; 10 students place 2nd; and 7 students place 3rd!  Awesome job!!
